Heat

Heat
tiptoes on the surface
leaving footprints
on the wearer,
then sinks inside
to slide around the bones,
waking memories
of unabashed joy
and playful discomfort—
Sometimes
in its ardor
it becomes careless,
and then the heat,
or else the memories,
will burn.
